I started Joyful Souls Heirloom Nursery after gardening for food for my own family, and providing vegetable and herb seedlings to my friends and neighbors. I wanted started planting for her family so they would have healthy, fresh vegetables and herbs that were pesticide free and grown using organic means.  Having four children, I grew a lot.  As a teacher, I also taught my students math, reading, science and social studies through gardening.  They also benefitted from the relaxation and enjoyment they gained from gardening!  Fast forward 20 years, my son, who has autism needed a job that he felt comfortable with and that gave him purpose! When other folks started asking me for my seedlings and to help them grow, Joyful Souls was born!

 

The nursery has become a passion for my son and I. We love growing, we love teaching, and we love getting other folks growing! At our suburban nursery, we are able to grow on less than an acre using organic means for high quality plant production. We harvest our own seeds for each planting season, have a healthy composting program, including vermicomposting, and grow using only organic means.​

We sell seedlings and starter plants of the heirloom variety, herbs, from the culinary to the medicinal, and herbal tea mixes from the garden.​ We also sell chicken herbs to keep your flock healthy!

 

We offer gardening courses, face-to-face and through our Sow & Grow Mobile Greenhouse.  We have classes and workshops available for all ages and abilities!​

Virtual Garden Club

We recognize that many of you come from a distance to join our classes, visit the nursery and more. We also recognize that not everyone has the transportation or ability to do so on a regular basis and still endeavor to learn more about growing sustainably at your own homes, learning how to use what you grow, and enjoying the health and wellness from so many aspects that gardening and growing brings! It is also important to learn from someone growing in your region as well, understanding how to grow with our climate, soils, and differing environments within the region.

 

In light of that we have been planning and creating the Joyful Souls Seeds to Supper Garden Club. A calendar of monthly virtual events will be on the site and links to all meetings will be emailed directly to you. Two tiered choices of membership are available:

  • Monthly emailed newsletter (you can also receive a mailed copy if desired) that includes timely gardening and growing information, guidance, articles on health in the garden, recipes, building projects to benefit the garden, and highlights from your gardens!

  • two seed mailings, spring seeds and fall seeds to start your garden

  • $1.50 per seasonal seedling at the nursery

  • safe chat group with Q & A advice, allowing all members to share growing information and your own beautiful spaces with each other to create a community of learning and support

  • opportunities to volunteer in school and community garden centers to give back 

  • $1.00 per seasonal seedling at the nursery

  • bi-monthly Q & A with Lisa for growing support

  • your choice of 1 of 3 growing sustainably books mailed to you from our recommended list
